Purpose

This study focuses on children’s description of their own pictures (drawings) and the relationship between child carers and children in the situations where these pictures (drawings) are created. The purpose of the study is to describe how children at daycare centres ascribe meaning to their own pictures (drawings).

Result

The study shows that children’s meaning-making activities differ from those of adults. Therefore, the collective meaning-making culture of children in relation to their own creations should be given more attention.

Design

The design of the study is ethnographic. The study is based on video footage and informal interviews with the staff and 36 children aged between four and six in two daycare centre groups.
