Purpose
The purpose of the article was to shed light on how six-year-olds in pre-school could be inspired by music. Previous research has shown that many pre-school teachers feel uncertainty regarding the use of songs and instruments in pre-school education, and that music education is therefore in danger of being marginalised. The researchers asked the following research questions: What factors determine how music lessons are planned and carried out in pre-school?
Result
The researchers concluded that the teachers’ fundamental views on music education determined the extent to which music teaching took place and how it was carried out in pre-school classes.
Design
A questionnaire was sent to 23 schools. Out of a total of 98 distributed questionnaires, 68 of them were answered. The data from the questionnaires were hermeneutically analysed.
