Purpose

The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of men who work in nature kindergartens, and why so many men work in this type of kindergarten.

Result

The results of the study include that there are no differences between men in nature kindergartens and ordinary kindergartens with regard to age, social position and education. Men in nature kindergartens emphasise that they can apply their interest in nature in their work. This group of men also emphasise that the work is more independent than similar work in regular kindergartens. The conclusion is that nature kindergartens provide a good place to promote the recruitment of more men to early childhood education and care.

Design

The study includes data material from questionnaires completed by 79 men who work in forest and nature kindergartens, and 42 men who work in ordinary kindergartens.
