Purpose

The study examines how a Turkish-speaking girl began to let her personality be expressed in a Norwegian-speaking play group.

Result

The author writes that over a long period of observation, the girl communicates increasingly in what is known as "pretend-talk 'and that she only allows her own voice a little more emphasis compared with the voices of her friends in communication. It is concluded that there is a need for greater knowledge about the importance of conversation with peers as regards language development in children who speak another native language than Norwegian.

Design

The study is designed as a description through a case study that is based on observations and video footage of a girl during a week over a period of three years.
