Purpose

The study investigates how Swedish kindergarten teachers implement programming activities in their teaching practice. The researchers take a closer look at kindergarten teachers’ views on content, methods and objectives related to programming in teaching.

Result

The results show that kindergarten teachers use a variety of apps and resources in combination with tablets for both non-digital programming, digital programming or a combination of both. The kindergarten teachers linked specific learning objectives and twenty-first century skills to the programming activities. Programming was often linked to learning in several subjects, such as science, technology, mathematics and languages.

Design

The data material was collected through an online national survey that was sent to approximately 500 kindergarten teachers. A total of 199 kindergarten teachers responded to the survey.
