Syfte

The study discusses different ideas about education and the conditions of children’s rights based on the text analysis of 100 kindergarten year plans. The research question is: What ideas about education do kindergartens with different ownership structures have?

Resultat

One of the main findings is that larger kindergartens that are run as limited companies, kindergartens that buy external programmes and kindergartens affiliated with the Agder Project, tend to emphasise education and learning to a greater extent than care, rest and play.

Design

The researcher has conducted a quantitative content analysis of 100 year plans from different types of kindergartens. Her analysis is based on four articles in the Convention on the Rights of the Child and two interpretations of the term education in order to map the prevalence of words and terms within the categories of participation, education, care and play, rest and leisure. Furthermore, a qualitative idea analysis has been made of a sample of 25 kindergarten year plans.
