Syfte

The study deals with user surveys, also called parent surveys, which are aimed at parents who have children in Norwegian kindergartens. The research questions are: 1) What influence do kindergarten coordinators think parent surveys have on various aspects of kindergarten activities? 2) How do coordinators assess the usefulness of parent surveys in light of their professional expertise?

Resultat

Most kindergarten coordinators in the survey believe that parents, through parent surveys, should be able to influence all aspects of kindergarten content. In particular, the coordinators are concerned that parents should have the opportunity to influence kindergartens’ educational content. Furthermore, the researchers found that parent surveys are seen as an important tool for improving the quality of kindergartens.

Design

The data material is taken from a quantitative survey involving 118 kindergarten coordinators and qualitative interviews with ten kindergarten coordinators. The sample in both surveys consists of coordinators from various Norwegian municipalities, both private and municipal kindergartens, and both women and men. All participants were recruited from a further education programme in management for coordinators at a university college in Norway.
