Syfte

The study investigates what is meant by a teaching kindergarten teacher. The research questions are: 1) What type of didactic components emerge in the descriptions written by kindergarten teachers and kindergarten coordinators? 2) How can these didactic components be interpreted and understood?

Resultat

The study indicates a linguistic shift among both kindergarten teachers and kindergarten coordinators towards an embrace of the concept of ‘teaching’. The written reflections show that the kindergarten teachers and coordinators also fill the concept of ‘teaching’ with didactic content, that they have developed a precise professional language and that didactic decisions are rooted in science and experience.

Design

Over a period of three years, the researchers had collected 160 written reflections from kindergarten teachers and coordinators in ten Swedish kindergartens via a standardised form that was distributed via e-mail. The analyses were methodologically rooted in multivocal didactic modelling.
