Syfte

The study investigates the technology-mediated creation process when children create multimodal stories with a kindergarten teacher. The research question is: What characterises the technology-mediated creation process when toddler groups create multimodal digital stories in collaboration with a kindergarten teacher?

Resultat

The results show that making audio recordings and sharing the content with others was the most important thing for the children. Furthermore, the technology-mediated process is characterised by a complex interaction between non-digital and digital activities, where the kindergarten teacher’s digital skills are an important factor.

Design

The data material consists of video observations of the children’s and kindergarten teachers’ creation process. The researcher followed two kindergarten teachers with two groups of children between the ages of four and five. The kindergarten teachers had no previous experience of using digital technology in a creative process lasting several days. The video observations were collected over a period of two months and the analysis is based on a total of 14 hours of video footage from 18 of these days.
